Washington State is abolishing capital punishment

The Supreme Court of State of Washington abolished the death penalty. The death penalty was in violation of the constitution, according to the Supreme Court.

All prisoners who are still sentenced to the death penalty will be given a life sentence in prison instead. It was a unanimous choice of the Supreme Court to abolish the death penalty.

The death penalty would be handed out unevenly.

The use of the death penalty is applied unevenly – sometimes by looking at where the crime took place, or the country in which the suspect lives… or the suspect’s race… The death penalty, as in our state, does not serve any legitimate criminal purpose.

In 30 states the death penalty is still used, twenty states have now abolished the death penalty.
