Lufthansa places orders with Boeing and Airbus

The German aviation group Lufthansa places a large order with aircraft manufacturers Boeing and Airbus. This concerns twenty aircraft of the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner type and twenty aircraft of the Airbus A350-900 model.

The order has a catalog value of $ 12 billion, but usually large discounts are given for such large orders. According to Lufthansa, this is a “substantial” discount. The new more efficient aircraft will be delivered between 2022 and 2027, mainly to replace older four-engine aircraft.

The assignment is a boost for Boeing that is currently in heavy weather in the aftermath of the crash of a 737 MAX 8 aircraft in Ethiopia on Sunday. It was the second fatal crash with this new aircraft in a short time.
