Ethiopian Airlines is reconsidering order 737 MAX
Ethiopian Airlines may end the order for 25 Boeings of the 737 MAX type. In a short time, two of those passenger aircraft crashed, including one from the Ethiopian airline. Afterwards many doubts were raised about the safety of the device.
Travelers’ trust in Ethiopian Airlines may get too big a blow if the order goes ahead, says CEO Tewolde GebreMariam in an interview. However, he only takes a final decision when Boeing comes with plans for a software update.
A Boeing 737 MAX from Ethiopian Airlines crashed shortly after takeoff last month, killing all 157 passengers. Earlier this week, an investigation by the Ethiopian authorities revealed that the same system played a role in that crash as in the disaster with an aircraft from Indonesian Lion Air in October. As a precaution, the 737 MAX is being grounded worldwide.
