Trump appealed against tax returns ruling

President Donald Trump has appealed against a court ruling that he must show his tax returns to the House of Representatives. According to Trump’s lawyers, the House of Representatives demand exceeds constitutional powers.

A judge ruled in favor of the House on Monday in his request to see Donald Trump’s tax returns from the period before he was elected president. The Trump government suffered a first legal defeat in the struggle with Congress, of which the House of Representatives is a part.

The president immediately stated that he did not agree with the judge’s decision. He thinks there is no good reason for accessing his finances and that the Democrats are only looking for a political instrument to use against the president, now and in the run-up to the 2020 elections.
