Volkswagen to work with Ford
The German car group Volkswagen is close to a deal with American counterpart Ford Motor for cooperation in the field of electric cars and autonomous driving. That’s what Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess said at a meeting of top managers at the Wolfsburg headquarters.
According to Diess, the talks are going well and a formal agreement can soon be signed. Last year it was already revealed that Ford and Volkswagen were discussing cooperation in electric and autonomous driving. By joining forces, considerable savings can be made on the high costs for research and development of these technologies.
Diess further urged the top managers to work more quickly on slimming Volkswagen, in order to better cope with the headwind that the company was struggling with. For example, Volkswagen is going to scrap thousands of jobs in the coming years to save costs and work more digitally.
