WhatsApp will work without an active smartphone

WhatsApp is working on the possibility to app without an active telephone, according to information in the hands of wabetainfo on Tuesday. Users could use the app on a tablet or computer in the future without having to have an account active on a phone.

WhatsApp can currently be used on a device other than a telephone via WhatsApp Web, but the phone with the WhatsApp account must still be active to send messages. With the new update it would be possible for users to use a WhatsApp account on multiple devices at the same time.

Even if your phone is empty, you could continue to use WhatsApp via another device. This makes the message service more like Facebook Messenger.

The new version would be in development for both Android, iOS and Windows. The source did not yet know with certainty whether there will also be a specific app for Mac OS.

The wabetainfo website often leaks reliable information about future versions of applications. But it is not yet certain when and whether this version of WhatsApp will be released at all.
