Minecraft has 112 million players per month

The popular open-world game Minecraft has 112 million players per month, Microsoft chief executive Helen Chiang told Business Insider. That means a growth of 21 million players since October 2018, the last time Microsoft commented on the number of active players.

In Minecraft, players can explore a virtual world and express themselves creatively by building designs with blocks. The number of active users of 112 million includes players on game consoles, computers, mobile devices and the educational version of the game.

The first version of the construction and adventure game dates from 2009. The game was then only available on the PC. The franchise has since expanded considerably: in 2018 an interactive Netflix series on Minecraft was released and in 2022 the first Minecraft film will be released.

Minecraft is also the best-selling video game ever. More than 176 million copies of the game have been sold, including paid downloads for smartphones.
