China wants to buy more pork from the US
Chinese companies are planning to buy larger quantities of American pork. Insiders reported this to the Bloomberg news agency. The move can be seen as a guide to Washington in the ongoing trade dispute between China and the United States.
Allegedly, Chinese companies have contacted major American meat exporters such as Smitfield Foods and Tyson Foods about their prices. The purchase volume is said to be around 100,000 tons, the sources say. China is the world’s largest consumer of pork. The prices of pork in the country have risen sharply this year and there are even shortages due to the outbreak of African swine fever in China.
On Monday it was announced that Beijing would have granted new exemptions to companies to buy American soybeans without being subject to tariffs. President Donald Trump has been trying to persuade the Chinese to buy more American agricultural products. Next month there will be high-level trade negotiations between the two economic superpowers.
