US authorities dive into Philips patent case

At the request of Philips, the American International Trade Commission has started an investigation into possible violations of patents by makers of fitness trackers Fitbit and Garmin. The Dutch healthcare technology group had already submitted complaints about this.

This is health monitoring and alarm reporting technology that Philips has developed for its own products, including Lifeline, Biosensor and Sleep Diagnostic devices. A similar technology could also be found in products from Fitbit and Garmin. Philips is therefore calling for a US ban on imports of the items in question, which are made by producers there in Asia.
