China is reporting new cases of coronavirus

The National Health Commission said 46 new corona cases were confirmed on Friday, including 42 people from abroad, compared to 42 cases a day earlier.

In the statement, the committee added that 34 new cases of people with no symptoms were also reported, up from 47 the previous day.

The number of infections on mainland China is now 81,953. The death toll rose by three to 3,339.

Severe lockdown measures imposed since January have helped to significantly reduce contamination in China since the peak of the epidemic in February. But the authorities fear a second wave from travelers from abroad and patients who have no symptoms.

Heilongjiang Province in northeastern China recently reported a spike in new cases by Chinese entering the province from Russia. Provincial health officials said there were 22 newly imported cases on Friday, all Chinese nationals returning from Russia.

Inner Mongolia had 27 newly imported cases on Saturday morning, all of them are from Russia, the region’s health authority said.

The central province of Hubei, where the virus emerged late last year, reported no new cases for the seventh consecutive day.

Since the epidemic broke out in the provincial capital of Wuhan, it has spread around the world, infecting 1.6 million people and dying over 100,000.
