European commission suspends GrandVision takeover investigation

More data is needed to decide if EssilorLuxottica are in line with competition law

The European Commission has temporarily suspended the investigation into the takeover of optical company GrandVision by spectacle and lens manufacturer EssilorLuxottica.

The market watchdog does this more often, for example when extra information is needed. At the beginning of March, the clock was also stopped. The trial was then resumed on March 18.

Brussels previously decided to conduct an in-depth investigation into the incorporation of GrandVision by the Italian-French group. The committee is concerned that the takeover will leave less competition on the wholesale market for lenses and spectacles, and that there will also be less choice for consumers.
