President Donald Trump announced the FDA decision to allow Remdesivir against COVID
Remdesivir approved despite the earlier reports stating the low effectiveness
The U.S. drug watchdog FDA has authorized the use of the drug Remdesivir against the new coronavirus. US President Donald Trump said this in a press conference. This would be a form of authorization for the use of experimental medicines in an emergency.
Several studies are still being conducted into the drug by the pharmaceutical company Gilead to determine whether it is effective against Covid-19. Initial results from a study by the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) indicate that the drug helps corona patients recover faster than normal care. At the same time, scientists in the medical journal The Lancet stated this week that remdesivir showed no statistically significant benefits in treating the lung disease associated with severe form of COVID.
