Secretary-General Guterres asks people to stop hate

United Nations Secretary-General Guterres says the corona pandemic has sparked “a tsunami of hatred, xenophobia, accusations and scare.” He calls for a “major effort to end hate speech”.

Guterres speaks of “anti-foreigner sentiment” that is emerging online and on the street, as well as anti-Semitic conspiracy theories and corona-related anti-Muslim attacks. Migrants and refugees, he says, are seen as spreaders of the virus. They have insufficient access to medical help, says the UN chief.

“I ask everyone to stand up to hate, to treat each other with dignity, and to take every opportunity to be kind to one another,” said Guterres.
