Trump signs a decree to limit social media censorship
Facebook is unhappy to be the only censor
Donald Trump signs a social media decree on Thursday. According to The Washington Post newspaper, Twitter, Facebook and Google may be punished for the way they moderate messages.
The announcement comes shortly after Trump lashed out at Twitter, among others, for posting a warning in his tweets about voting by mail. Twitter said the information may be incorrect and referred to multiple media outlets who have written about postal voting in a favorable way.
“Republicans feel that social media platforms are silencing conservatives. We are going to regulate or close them firmly because we can never allow this, ” Trump said on Twitter on Wednesday.
Trump uses the social medium daily.
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey says the social medium is “not the arbiter of truth.” “Our intention is to provide more information on divergent views so that users can ultimately draw their own conclusions.”
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, expressed concerns about Trump’s plan. “Censoring social media is not the right response for a government concerned about censorship.”
