Beijing in partial lockdown after 45 new corona infections found on Xinfadi market
Parts of the Chinese capital Beijing were locked down on Saturday after 45 new corona infections were detected in the same food market in one day on Friday. Various foreign media report this.
The first case of the new outbreak was discovered on Thursday after a 52-year-old man was tested positive for the virus. The district in which he lived was then designated as a risk area. In total, 57 infections were counted in one day in China.
The Xinfadi market, to which at least 45 infections are linked, is located in the southern part of Beijing. About 2 million people live in the district where the market is located. Several schools in the area have been closed, sporting events have been canceled and travel restrictions have been imposed on residents.
Before this new outbreak was discovered, 55 days had elapsed in Beijing when no new corona infections were discovered, only among Chinese who traveled back to China from other countries. It is not yet known how long the new measures will remain in force.
