Blackberry will make 5G phone the next year

Sadly it will be Android-based

The Blackberry phone brand will make a comeback next year with an Android smartphone that supports the fast 5G networks. The new Blackberry also gets a physical keyboard.

Next year, the new Blackberry smartphone will be on the market in Europe and North America, has been announced. More details on the new phone are still missing. For example, no picture of the device has yet been published.

The brand name Blackberry has been taken over by the Us security firm OnwardMobility. This works with Blackberry and Foxconn-daughter FIH Mobile to develop the new smartphone with a physical keyboard.

Since 2016, the Chinese manufacturer TCL has been licensed under the name Blackberry. The company made the KeyOne and Key2. TCL’s BlackBerry devices were no sales success. The current license expires at the end of August.

BlackBerry was a major power in the mobile phone market over ten years ago. At its peak, the Canadian company had a 50 percent market share in the US and 20 percent worldwide.

Blackberry lost to iPhones and Android devices after 2010. In 2016, BlackBerry decided to stop making mobile phones and focus on software and security.
