Mayor versus Trump: “Violence in Portland is part of your hate campaign”

In the capital city of Oregon, a man was shot dead Saturday night. Earlier that night, there were Black Lives Matter demonstrations and hundreds of supporters of president Trump in pick-up trucks came to town.

“You have created hatred and division. You tried to break us up. And now you want me to stop the violence that has helped you create?”, said Democratic Ted Wheeler at a press conference.

Among other examples, he mentioned racist attacks by Trump, targeting black people, mocking a disabled man and attacks on journalists and migrants.

Trump had tweeted Wheeler as a” weak and pathetic Democratic mayor.”

In Portland, a Trump supporter was shot to death on Saturday. The police say that the investigation should determine whether the shooting of the man is related to the confrontations between Trump supporters and the Black Lives Matter movement.

There were protests again in the city last night. Officers have arrested several people. Oregon State Police are helping local authorities.

Meanwhile, the governor of the U.S. State of Wisconsin has called on president Trump to cancel his visit to the city of Kenosha tomorrow. There it is restless after Jacob Blake was shot seven times in the back by a police officer. The police union said he was aggressive and had a knife with him.
