Sales of Huawei phones are plummeting

The effects of US trade sanctions against Huawei are becoming increasingly visible. The fourth quarter, which is important for turnover due to the holidays in december, seems to have gone dramatically for the Chinese techgigant.

Market researchers CounterPoint and IDC conclude that the company saw its telephone sales worldwide fall by about 40 percent in the last three months of 2020 compared to the same period last year. At Counterpoint, the group even falls outside the top 5 of the most sold smartphone brands.

This downward trend can also be seen in the Netherlands. “What we expected last year is now really happening,” says analyst Tim Wijkman from the telecom Paper Research Agency. “Huawei seems to have played out on the international market, in Europe and in the US.”
