Germany and the United States are biggest investors in the development of COVID-19 vaccines
The United States and Germany are by far the largest investors in the development of corona vaccines. Together they invested 3.7 billion dollars.
The US government made 2.2 billion dollars available and the German government made 1.5 billion dollars available. With great distance follows Great Britain, which invested 500 million dollars. It is unknown how much Russia and China invested in their vaccines.
The German company Biontech, which launched a vaccine together with the US company Pfizer, was able to count on a substantial contribution from the state budget, as was the German company Curevac, which hopes to launch a vaccine later this year. A new Biontech plant in Marburg has also been co-financed by the German state. Biontech hopes to take this plant into operation at the end of April.
