Personal data of Carnival Corp. cruise company leaked
Carnival Corp, the parent company of cruise ship Holland America Line, has been hit by a cyber attack. The intruder managed to access the company’s e-mail accounts. It seems that the hacker has stolen customer data and Employee personal data, the company says.
The attack took place in mid-March and was discovered by the company on 19 March. After the discovery, Carnival Corp hired an independent cybersecurity company to investigate the data breach. The data breach was reported to the Attorney General of the U.S. State of Montana on May 7.
How much data was stolen and how the intruders broke in is not clear. Nor is it known who is behind the attack.
In a letter to customers, the company indicated that outsiders may have gained access to Social Security numbers, passport numbers, birth dates, addresses and health information.
Carnival Corp has set up a call center for customer questions about the data breach.
