Apple comes with digital ID app, eight states are ready to support it

Imagine how convenient it is to have half a pound of driver license!

In eight US states, iPhone users will soon be able to show their driver’s license and ID card digitally via the Wallet app. US Customs will make it possible for passengers at multiple airports to identify themselves with their smartphones.

First, users in the states of Arizona and Georgia will be given the opportunity. This is followed by Connecticut, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Oklahoma and Utah. Apple sees the application as “important step in our pursuit to replace physical IDs with safe and easy mobile alternatives”

The IDs should be able to be entered in the same way as the way users can already add debit cards to the app. The state that issued the proof must then confirm its authenticity. The tech company says it is in consultation with more states to further roll out the digital identification documents.
