Blinken goes against any action that jeopardizes the two-state solution

It's an attempt to warn Benjamin Netanyahu

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned on Sunday that the United States will oppose the establishment of new settlements by the next Israeli government. Blinken made his statements in a speech for the liberal American lobby group J Street, which is working in Washington for a two-state solution in Israel.

“We will continue to unequivocally oppose any action that jeopardizes the two-state solution, including settlement expansion, attempts to annex the West Bank, disruption of the historic status quo of holy sites, destruction and evictions, and incitement to violence,” Blinken said.

Blinken’s warning is indirectly addressed to Benjamin Netanyahu, who, as the winner of the most recent elections, is forming a new government. Netanyahu has been prime minister several times, most recently until June last year and for a total of more than fifteen years. He is expected to form an ultra-right coalition with nationalist and religious parties. Those parties are precisely in favor of expanding Jewish settlements in the West Bank.
