China warns against Taiwan independence, will use force if necessary
Taiwan’s independence will only bring the country to disaster. In this way, the Chinese president Xi Jinping once again made it clear that he will not tolerate an independent Taiwan.
China issued an authoritative statement forty years ago, in which Taiwan is considered part of China. To celebrate this, Xi spoke today in the Great People’s Hall at the Square of Heavenly Peace. The president argued for a peaceful reunification between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of China, as the official name of Taiwan is. But Xi also warned that he would use violence if necessary.
In 1949 Taiwan was grounded as the refuge of the nationalist Chinese government after the Communists seized power on the mainland. Most countries do not officially recognize Taiwan as an independent country because China refuses to maintain diplomatic relations with countries that do.
