Spotify no longer allows independent artists to upload music

Spotify stops a test where artists could upload music to the platform without the intervention of a third party or via a record company. The Swedish company will not accept any new uploads from August, it will be announced on its website on Monday.

The music streaming service started the test in September. The function to upload music directly to Spotify was initially only available to American musicians, but should have become more widely available later.

In this way artists could make their music available on Spotify and receive a payment for it. Musicians are still paid for songs that are played via Spotify in July, after which no more royalties are paid.

Artists who have uploaded their work to Spotify via the beta program will have to move their music to another hosting provider to keep it available on the platform.
