Texas shooter acted alone, death toll reaches seven

In addition to the seven fatalities, 22 people were injured

According to the police, the shooter who set up a massacre in the Texan towns of Midland and Odessa on Saturday afternoon acted on his own. There are no indications that it was a terrorist attack. The death toll from the shooting has risen to seven victims. The shooter was shot by the police.

The perpetrator was a 36-year-old man who lived in Odessa. He was known to the police and already had some convictions. He would also have failed a previous background check, according to local media. The police could not say anything about the motive of the perpetrator, but states that there is no link with terrorism.

President Donald Trump called the perpetrator a “sick person”, but also said that a background check when buying weapons is not a solution to the recent violence. In conversation with journalists, Trump said that as soon as Congress is back from vacation this month, he wants to work with Democrats and Republicans on new arms legislation

The massacre started Saturday afternoon when two police officers stopped the man because he would not have used his flashing light. The Texan immediately started shooting with a gun. He then fled the car, hijacked a van from the American Post Office, and started shooting at passers-by. Fifteen kilometers away, the man in the parking lot of a cinema was surrounded by the police and shot dead.
