Uber Technologies in talks with Postmates food delivery service

Uber Technologies, the company behind meal delivery company Uber Eats, seems to want to increase its presence in that market with the acquisition of the Postmates. Business newspaper The Wall Street Journal writes, based on sources, that Uber wants to pay $ 2.6 billion for the company. It is not certain whether it will come to a deal, since Postmates is also considering an IPO.

The newspaper writes that the Postmates acquisition could be announced as early as next week. The deal is part of a series of acquisitions and financing in the sector. The Amsterdam-based Just Eat Takeaway, for example, emphatically moved with the merger between the British Just Eat and Takeaway.com and later with the acquisition of Grubhub. Several peers secured money through investment rounds.

Meanwhile, Postmates also seems to have dusted off its stock exchange listing plans. The company registered its stock market plans early last year, but has not yet taken the step. That could happen this summer, sources said. Postmates declined to comment on the rumors.
