Three migrants arrested for arson
On Wednesday, the Greek police arrested three people suspected of starting a fire near a migrant camp on the island of Samos. They were supposed to be migrants living in the camp.
The fire broke out on Tuesday near Camp Kyt. It’s not clear yet how the fire started.
The authorities say that the security of the more than 4,700 migrants from the camp was not at stake. The migrant camp was originally intended to temporarily house some 650 migrants. This week it was announced that residents of the camp had tested positive for COVID-19.
A large fire at the Moria migrant camp on the Greek island of Lesbos last week left nearly 13 000 migrants without shelter. At the moment, many migrants are being accommodated in a temporary tent camp. Arrests were also made for that fire.
