TSMC intends to give high priority to car chips

The Taiwanese market leader for chips TSMC wants to prioritize the production of car controller chips as soon as they are able to increase production capacity. This is reported by the Taiwanese Ministry of Economic Affairs in response to the worldwide shortage of automotive chips, which is disrupting car production.

TSMC has indicated that it wants to optimize the production of chips first and then increase the production of automotive chips. In 2020, car chips accounted for only 3 percent of the company’s total sales of chips. For chips for smartphones that was almost 50 percent, and the so-called’ high perfection ‘ chips accounted for over 30 percent of sales.

Germany had asked Taiwan to persuade Taiwanese producers to do something about the automotive shortfalls. Worldwide car manufacturers are forced to stop production due to the supply problems of the specific components.
