Elon Musk complained about bitcoin energy efficiency
As if Tesla cars run on a Holy Spirit
The bitcoin came under heavy pressure last night after a message from Elon Musk. Tesla’s CEO announced on Twitter that the car manufacturer no longer accepts bitcoin as a means of payment.
Musk said he was concerned about the polluting nature of bitcoin. After all, the’ mining ‘ of the cryptocurrency takes a lot of energy. And according to the CEO, that is not always clean energy, but often coal, which is very polluting.
However, Musk repeated that cryptocurrencies are a good idea “on many levels” and he still sees in a “promising future” for these coins. But that should not be at the expense of the environment, he warned.
Musk noted that Tesla will not sell bitcoins. As the payment process becomes more fueled with renewable energy, Tesla will start using the cryptocurrency again for transactions, according to Musk.
Tesla also continues to look at other cryptocurrencies that require less energy when making transactions than bitcoin.
The price of bitcoin fell by more than 10 percent to about $ 51,000. Earlier tonight, the currency even briefly dropped below $ 47,000.
