Amazon buys MGM and all the respective rights
One shop to rule them all
Amazon acquires film studio MGM for $ 8.45 billion. That was announced by the American companies on Tuesday.
MGM for the abbreviation of Metro Goldwyn Mayer, has been for nearly a hundred years of motion pictures, and has a collection of over 4,000 movies with famous titles such as James Bond, Tomb Raider, Robocop, Rocky, the Silence of the Lambs and The Pink Panther.
MGM also has a catalogue of 17,000 television shows. In total, the studio won over 180 Oscars and 100 Emmys.
The film producer will be merged with Amazon Studios. Amazon will help MGM to make its cinematographic ‘heritage’ more available to its customers.
“The actual financial value of this deal is the treasure trove of intellectual property rights within the deep catalogue of that, we want to visualize, and to develop, together with the talented team at MGM,” said Mike Hopkins, Prime Video, and Amazon Studios.
