VW settled the case of Takata airbags
$42 million is the total amount of the settlement
The amount is intended to cover the costs incurred by American consumers for the repair of their airbag and the rental of a rental car. The Volkswagen Group has reached a settlement in the United States of $ 42 million for its role in the Takata scandal. This manufacturer’s Airbags could spontaneously explode due to a manufacturing defect, with metal particles being thrown into the car. According to Reuters news agency, which writes about the settlement case, this defect has already caused at least 400 injuries and 28 deaths worldwide.
Volkswagen prevents further court cases in the airbag debacle with the settlement. Reuters reports this on the basis of documents from the Miami court.
The settlement includes the costs incurred by American consumers for the repair of their airbag and the use of a rental car. A total of 1.35 million cars from the group were equipped with a Takata airbag. The car manufacturer is not the first car manufacturer to make a settlement with the American justice system. In total, seven major car manufacturers in the US have already settled, with a total value of more than $ 1.5 billion.
Since 2008, more than 100 million airbags from Japanese airbag maker Takata have been replaced.
