Blinken is asked to interpret Biden’s words
It is not it what it seems to be
The United States is not looking to bring another regime to power in Russia. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said this at a press conference with his Israeli counterpart Yair Lapid on Sunday.
US president Joe Biden openly questioned Putin’s sole rule in the Kremlin and his wartime actions in a speech in Poland on Saturday. “For God’s sake, this man can’t stay in power,” he said.
A spokesman for the Kremlin reacted disapprovingly to the statement.
“It’s not up to Biden to decide. The Russian president was elected by the Russians,” said Dmitry Peskov.
The White House later tried to make it clear that Biden did not call for Putin to be overthrown, but only wanted to say that the Russian leader “should not be given power over his neighbors”.
Blinken emphasizes that now. “We do not have a strategy for a change of power in Russia or anywhere else,” the minister said.
