U.S. House Judiciary Committee wants to hear Gingrich

The committee of the US Congress investigating the Storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021, wants to hear Republican and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. Commissioner and Democrat Jamie Raskin told CNN on Sunday about Gingrich: ‘during the investigation, he continued to try to spread the ‘Big Lie of voter fraud’ and keep the case going long after the election.

The commission asked 79-year-old Gingrich in a letter Thursday to discuss his role in spreading allegations about the outcome of the 2020 presidential election. After all, those claims led to the Storming of the Capitol by angry supporters of then-president Donald Trump. They wanted to prevent the formal adoption of the election results by Parliament. In particular, the commission wants to know more about Gingrich’s communication with Trump and his associates about a tv spot in which the validity of the election results was disputed.

According to the commission, Gingrich was also otherwise involved in Trump’s attempts to prevent the confirmation of the election result, including after the Storming of the Capitol. Trump refuses to admit his defeat in 2020 to this day and continues to argue that the victory of current president Joe Biden came about through voter fraud from victory.
