China prepares for Cold War with the US
With more Army budget and tougher language, China shows itself ready for a new Cold War with the United States.
“Western countries, under the leadership of the United States, are pursuing a policy of containment, containment and repression against China. This presents us with unprecedented challenges.” That’s what President Xi Jinping just said to the Chinese National People’s Congress, a kind of Parliament without real power, at the opening of the political year in China.
Although there has been growing skepticism against the West for years, it is the first time that the president has spoken such clear language. So far, Xi’s subordinates in particular have harshly criticized the west, he himself remained mild. China is also adding to the action by a remarkable 7.2 percent increase in the military budget.
